You definitely need to bring a lot of sunscreen when you come to Hope Town because there’s plenty of outdoor activities to choose from. Activities include (but aren’t limited to): Kiteboarding, paddle boarding, kayaking, scuba diving, conch pulling, shelling, deep sea fishing, reef fishing, bone fishing, bicycling, island hopping and more.
The concierge at Firefly Sunset Resort can help create a fun-filled weekend for you, so please don’t hesitate to ask when planning your outdoor activities.
Fishing Charters: Whether you’re a novice angler or a self proclaimed expert Hope Town has multiple options for your fishing adventures all year round. The island offers reef fishing, deep sea fishing, fly flishing and bonefish fishing charters. Visitors are also welcome to fish off the beaches or docks at their leisure. If you plan to fish without a licensed guide please familiarize yourself with the Updated Fishing Rules and Regulations, and it’s always a good idea to check in with a local dive shop or charter guide for changes or updates during the time of your trip.
*Deep Sea Fishing: Without going too far from shore Elbow Cay offers exciting deep sea fishing for those of all skill levels and ages. Catching tuna, sharks, marlin, sailfish, mahimahi and mackerel deep sea (or off shore) fishing is a popular choice for our visitors.

*Bonefishing: Bonefishing is growing as a local favorite among Elbow Cay and takes place in the flats. The Bahamas are known for some of the best bonefishing in the Caribbean. Known as the “grey ghost,” bonefish are often elusive and can reach speeds of 30 miles per hour once hooked.
We Recommend: Wild Pigeon Charters
*Reef Fishing: Reef fishing (or bottom fishing) may take some extra patience but is very rewarding for the whole family. A less taxing option, reef fishing, includes popular catches such as trigger fish, snappers, yellow fins, grouper and more. Plus, the Bahamas has the third largest barrier reef in the world- perfect for fishing!
We Recommend: A Salt Weapon Charters
*Fly Fishing: The Bahamas has the most renowned fishing flats or ‘marls’ in the world, miles and miles of shallows just off the shoreline or amongst the mangroves. Anglers can catch bonefish, tarpon and permit, among others, during a fly fishing trip in the Abaco Islands.
We Recommend: On Da Fly Abaco
Scuba Diving/Snorkeling: Still a hidden gem, the waters of the Abaco Islands are a mecca for ocean lovers. Whether you are a skilled diver or an occasional snorkeler our waters offer something for everyone. With our barrier reef being the third largest in the world there are plenty of creatures and sights to see all around Hope Town.

Boating: For a relaxing day on the water many guests enjoy renting their own boat. If you are generally knowledgable in running a boat taking a day to yourself on our seas will be a breeze. Not so confident in your boating skills? We can help direct you to a daily guide service to chauffeur you around the waterways- just ask!
In Abaco there are generally two high tides & two low tides each day, 6 hours apart. The times advance about an hour each day so for example: todays 10:00 am high tide becomes about 11:00 am tomorrow & so forth. Generally you will have 8’ or more, sometimes 6’, but you only need a maximum of 2’ to safely operate. Just lookout for the spots on the chart marked “shallow”.
Pick up a copy of the latest edition of “The Cruising Guide to Abaco”. It includes updates of navigational charts and marinas and tide tables for the year, snorkeling and diving charts, business information, lunar calendar, and offshore bathymetric fishing chart and much more. You are welcome to fish at your own accord, as no license is required, but make sure to pay attention to regulations and seasonal laws.
